IDC, IIT POWAI, MUMBAI, 09-10-08 TO 11-10-08
It is quite obvious that I went to a workshop by name EXPO’ CD 2008 at IDC, IIT POWAI.
• Purpose of attending the workshop: -
1. I went to my doctor cousin for consultation and he asked what the problem was, I said I am putting in more hours in office, toiling like a labor, working on Sundays, on holidays; all my body parts are revolting. He said there is only one treatment “Go to GOA!!!” I said there are two problems, one, there is no meaning in going to goa with your wife and your wife will not allow you to go alone. Then he said attend a workshop, take a break from your routine.
2. I had never been to any of the IITs and during our growing days there were only two careers either you become an IAS officer (CSR, yojana, quiz time by sidharth basu) or you get admission in any of the IITs and i missed them both though i feel i deserved.
3. Jokes apart I wanted to get some inputs for my PhD topic which is from HCI (Human Computer Interaction) domain and peek into IDCs library for any project reports related to my PhD topic.
• Stay at IIT Powai:-
you have scenic lake, greenery, good and cheap guest house, a nice canteen. I enjoyed my three day stay there very much. The food at lake side guest house was befitting IITian culture, toned down, masala free, less oil. After lunch I had to walk I think at least a kilometer from guest house back to seminar hall in IDC building. IIT Powai is a world of its own lacking any of mumbayya culture, Mumbai rush. You may come across leopards, crocodiles, snakes and u feel very much near to the Mother Nature.
• What I got in return:-
A change of routine which was badly required. I came to know about a new subject “TYPOGRAPHY” as the workshop was based on the same topic. I could listen lectures from personalities like Prof.Athwankar, Prof.Ravi, Prof. Sreekumar, Prof. Dalvi, Prof. Sadhu, Prof. Nina Sabnani, Prof. Ajanta Sen. I could interact with my co-participants who were designers, graphic designers, Info Architects etc.;
I also had taken along my daughter(nine years old) with me . She was coming without her mother for the first time and iwas supposed to drop her at Pune where my sister stays, mother daughter duo both were worried about my capability to carry on this huge responsibility (always be with her, don’t leave her alone, don’t be busy with your cell phone, when the bus stops don’t get down alone and…!!!!! Oof so many instructions). I could carry out this responsibility successfully. My daughter also enjoyed her stay at pune with my sis as she took good care( lot of shopping, food, visit to museums, playing with kids).
